About the Law Offices of Laurie J. Meilleur, PLLC
So why choose me? Because you want an attorney who has your back when you’re hurt, sick, or can’t get access to the resources you need to get your life back on track. Beyond the necessary degrees, experience, and smarts, I put pieces together quickly, research thoroughly, and have no fear when it comes to going to trial. I won’t pressure you to settle for a quick, but reduced, payout. I will, however, keep you informed of all your options throughout your case so that you can make decisions that are best for you. Most importantly, I won’t show up to your hearing only having reviewed your file or case the night before. That drives me crazy and I view it as mishandling a case.
I have a B.A. in Philosophy from UNC Asheville, a J.D. from Ohio Northern University, Claude Petit School of Law. I started out in the NC Attorney General’s Office defending state agencies against negligence claims, moved to the NC Administrative Office of the Courts where I represented abused, neglected, and dependent children in District Court, and worked as a Special Deputy Commissioner within the Deputy Commissioner’s Section of the NC Industrial Commission where I reviewed form agreements, compromise settlement agreements, and drafted decisions and opinions for Deputy Commissioners (Workers’ Compensation & Tort Claims Act Administrative Judges). I have appeared in hundreds of hearings before administrative and judicial bodies.
What does my background mean for you? I’ve done defense – I am familiar with some of the “tricks” of the trade, I am well versed with trial strategy, I think quickly on my feet when presented with new information, and I know what evidence needs to be part of the record, and how to apply the law to that use evidence in order to have the best shot at getting what you need.
I have an office in Raleigh, but travel across the state of North Carolina regularly and would be happy to meet you at your home after an initial phone consultation.
Other Cool Stuff:
I have the best mutt in the entire world. His name is Raleigh, and you may meet him if you come to my office.
Also, if you know the name and location of hole in the wall restaurants that serve good tacos, please let me know.
I’ve backpacked down the Yucatan twice, lived abroad in France, and gone to India for a best friend’s wedding. Having the ability to travel, at any price point, is the best gift to yourself.
